Once someone becomes an Otaku and gets extremely invested in anime, there is no going back. After all, setting goals for yourself to watch more anime is simply the beginning of this grueling journey.
You see, I have been an anime fan for a long time. I have called myself an Otaku, a Weaboo, or whatever other terms exist out there. Today, I wish to share with you my Otaku bucket list that every aspiring veteran Otaku wishes to have completed within their short lifespan.
I truly hope you are able to relate to this article.
1. Visit Japan
If it is not apparent already, you might have heard that Japan is the all-holy motherland of anime. But have you ever been there?
You see, many Otakus’ ultimate goals are to travel to Japan once in their lifetime. Japan is where anime happens, and these fans would love to experience the country themselves.
So, if you are an Otaku, visiting Japan should be at the top of your wishlist. There, you can hopefully view Mt. Fuji from a luxurious overnight inn. Or perhaps, visit Akihabara, the center of electronics and all Otaku things.
As you can see, the things you can do in Japan as an Otaku are limitless; ranging from visiting a maid cafe, shopping anime merch, and even cosplaying.
So book yourself a flight ticket, and see the sacred motherland of anime itself.
2. Have A Japanese Otaku Friend
After watching anime for a while, you will inevitably come to the conclusion that Japanese people are hella cool. And by that, I mean they are truly a great resource to have as an Otaku.
You see, having a Japanese Otaku friend who could relate to your obsession with anime is the dream of every fellow Otaku out there. In fact, their benefits are literally endless.
A Japanese Otaku friend would be able to help you with your Japanese language studies. In addition, they can also provide you with great anime recommendations. And let you in on the background knowledge behind such anime.
And if you are somewhat a music person like me, having a Japanese friend will most likely introduce you to a variety of the more niche Otaku cultures. Topics such as Vocaloid, Utaite, and much more. So go out there and make some friends, even if you don’t feel like it!
3. Have A Massive Anime List
If you have been watching a lot– of anime lately. Then perhaps you might find it difficult to keep up with the upcoming anime schedule. Let’s face it, there are too many anime to watch yet not enough time.
What you probably need is an anime planner. Not just any average anime planner, but a massive one as you watch more and more anime and update your list regularly. You will find eventually come up with a Plan to Watch list that seems impossible to complete.
Trust me; I’ve been there and done that and every time you finish an anime, there is just an all-so-satisfying sense of accomplishment and pride. So don’t even bother arguing with me on this one!
Having a massive anime planner is an integrated part of becoming an Otaku. Plus, it will make your day so much better just by scrolling through a seemingly endless chart of 300 or so Completed Anime.
4. Master Japanese
Sometimes, living the life of an Otaku can be difficult, especially when you have to wait a few days before a subbed, or dubbed, version is released.
There is one very easy solution to this problem. And that is to begin studying Japanese. Because let’s face it. Showing off to friends and families your ability to understand raw anime, is in itself, pretty dope!
There are also a variety of benefits that you can gain just from mastering Japanese alone. One thing is you can now actually travel to Japan, make Japanese friends, and do all the above.
To your extent, you can also consume other Otaku products, such as Manga, Light Novels, and Visual Novels.
Having Japanese at the back of your hands is pretty handy. And for an Otaku, Japanese fluency should be one of the best bullet points on your Otaku bucket list.
5. Have A Huge Figurine Collection
Being an Otaku comes with many responsibilities. And one of them is to own a massive figurine collection.
Nowadays, there are many anime out there that have their own niche collection of figurines and merchandise. What’s more? The internet age has made it amazingly easy to obtain your hands on these products.
Figurine collection is, in itself, a hobby that requires dedication, passion, and ultimately, money. That’s right! Though these products can be somewhat pricey at times. There is just something so satisfying about having a massive shelf full of well-organized figurines as an Otaku.
The bottom line is, that having a massive figurine collection is simply worth the bucks, time, and money. Definitely, something to have on an Otaku Bucket List!
Conclusion
That concludes my Otaku To-Do lists. Of course, your anime journey would be much, much different from mine. But I hope that you find that your own personal lists would be somewhat similar to this one right here at the end of the day.
And for the more experienced anime fans and veteran Otakus out there, how relatable was this To-Do list? Were there more tasks that you wish you were able to accomplish within your lifespan?
If so, please feel free to share it with me in the comment section below.
Well then, have a great day, and I’ll see you again!
